How to Donate Your Car to PetSmart Charities

Step 1: Provide Vehicle Information

Complete the donation form online or by calling us at 877-957-2277. We will ask you a few questions about your vehicle, including the VIN, year, make, model, mileage, and condition.

Step 2: Schedule Free Car Pick Up

Tell us a bit about yourself and where your car will be picked up. You’ll be contacted by a local towing agent within 2-3 business days to schedule a pick up time that works best for you.

Step 3: Get Tax Receipt

Once you submit your PetSmart Charities car donation, you’ll receive a confirmation email with access to your Donor Console. Within the Donor Console, you’ll be able to track the progress of your car donation, upload documents, and get tax and title information. After your car is sold, you will be emailed a tax receipt.

What types of vehicles can I donate to PetSmart Charities?

PetSmart Charities accepts almost all running and non-functioning cars and trucks. Other vehicles such as vans, motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats, RVs, trailers, planes, and heavy machinery are accepted on a case-by-case basis. Does my car have to be registered in my name?

No, it does not. The name on registration documents and vehicle titles are often different. However, the title does have to be in your name. If you have any questions, visit our Title Help page or give us a call at 877-957-2277.

If there are 2 people listed on the title, do both need to sign it?

Generally, yes. However, if there is an “or” in between the names, it only requires one signature.

How much money will PetSmart Charities receive from my car donation?

Our agent, Advanced Remarketing Services, returns at least 75-80% of the gross proceeds from the sale of your vehicle to PetSmart Charities.

Will I receive a tax receipt?

Yes! Within 30 days of the sale of your car, you’ll be emailed a tax receipt. If your car sells for over $500, you may deduct the full selling price of the car when itemizing taxes. If your car sells for less than $500, you can deduct $499 or your car’s fair market value, whichever is less. Please consult with your tax advisor on the best way to claim your PetSmart Charities car donation tax deduction.
