Last month a classic car was donated to one of our top charity partners Car Talk. Car Talk is an Award-winning radio show broadcast weekly on NPR stations. This 1963 Ford Galaxie is the oldest car we received for the popular show focusing on automobiles and automobile repair. In addition, the particular station this car was donated to is KNKX of Tacoma, Washington thru the Friends of 88.5 FM non-profit organization.
The 1963 model of the Galaxie became a classic on its first day in the showroom. The distinctive lines and stylings of this car are a timeless look for Ford’s of this era. Since it’s debut the Galaxie is now among the most collected Fords. Among a large choice of options the most popular starting model was the 4-door sedan. These were usually equipped with a smaller engine configuration. However, these could be special ordered with just about any engine the customer desired. The Mileage Maker Six Cylinder came standard but there are also five other engine types for this model. This ranged up to a dual four barrel carburetor at an astounding 425 horsepower though this was offered in a limited number of Galaxies.
This particular Galaxie has just over 70,000 miles and is in pretty fair condition. In 2004 the whole was re-done with a lot of new parts. This classic white Galaxie is moving on to it’s next life raising funds for the donors favorite NPR station KNKX and talk show, Car Talk.
Simply, the 1963 Galaxie is legendary and beautifully designed. It will always be of great interest to car collectors and Ford enthusiasts.
