This week’s vehicle donation is a 1971 Starcraft 14ft Boat donated to Habitat of Humanity of Summit County through their Cars for Homes Program. It is very hard to say goodbye to a friend of 50 years. This friend happens to be a 1971 Starcraft 14 foot boat. It had been a good solid lakeworthy vessel that I bought from the first owner in 1975. With an upgraded 1990 Johnson 28hp motor, the boat would skim effortlessly over the water. Its driving console left an open area in the mid section for easy maneuvering in the boat.
I have an album full of people who have gone fishing with me in this boat. entitled fishing with Guide Tim. That’s what I love about this boat. Not only has it been a very useful boat, it has been a tool to build so many relationships and make so many friends. It is still as sturdy as it was the day I bought it. It has never let me down. But age and health does prevail sometimes, and it is time for me to let this friend go.

I’m a pastor, and the church I served in Galion, Ohio went on an annual workcamp to a Habitat for Humanity site. I learned many building skills over the years. Later, I helped found the Habitat for Humanity chapter in Crawford County OH. I think my friend, the always ready Starcraft, is ready to help again, this time to provide some funds for Habitat for Humanity.
