This week’s car donation features a 2002 Ford F150 that was donated to YourClassical MPR through the Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program. Car Talk works with local public radio stations across the nation. They ensure that each station gets the most from the proceeds of your donation. This enables your favorite programs to continue fostering thoughtful discussion, trustworthy information, and engaging entertainment. Your car donation helps keep your favorite public radio programming on air.

This donor shares their experience with their beloved vehicle and why they chose to donate to YourClassical MPR:

On the way back from Devil’s Tower, we drove down the scenic Spearfish Canyon in the Black Hills. As we rounded a bluff a red tailed hawk appeared out of nowhere, struggling to gain elevation. It was weighed down by a large snake in its talons, and unfortunately could not get high enough to avoid grazing the cab of our new truck.

Both my wife and I quickly looked back, relieved to see that the hawk was still flying, apparently uninjured by the minor collision, but notably, the snake was no longer in its grasp. The hawk had crossed over the bed of our trusty pickup just after bumping the cab, leaving both of us wondering: What happened to the snake?

Now you need to remember that there are prairie rattlers, rattlesnakes, out in this part of SD. We looked at each other – then at the box of the truck, and at the tarps. It couldn’t have fallen in there, could it?

I pulled over, carefully untied the tarps and pulled them back, not wanting to threaten the already probably rather upset creature. And not really wanting to get bit by it either! Happily our search was in vain, there was no snake to be found, and we left hoping that the hawk was able to find its hard won meal somewhere further up the road.

Over the 20 years that we owned it, we took many trips like this. I loaded it up with patio pavers to build our patio, I hauled dirt to build garden beds, building supplies to build fences, mend walls, hauled away decades of yard waste. In a word, it was a reliable and trusty old steed that got many jobs done.

The proceeds from this vehicle donation will allow YourClassical MPR to continue creating content for its loyal listeners!
