Take a look at this month’s vehicle donation shout-out, a 2001 Toyota Avalon. This vehicle was generously donated to the American Cancer Society through the Cars for a Cure Vehicle Donation Program. Donating your car to ACS rather than just selling it will help properly support the many individuals and families affected by cancer. Your donation will help fund lifesaving cancer research, education, advocacy, and free patient service programs.
I had the privilege of speaking directly with this donor, reading his story, and now getting to share it with everyone:
I remember the day I bought my Toyota Avalon V6 XLS. After a year of research, test drives, and debating my options, I finally found the car that fitted my needs perfectly. The Avalon was known for being a high-end, spacious sedan with an understated elegance, not flashy, but with a quiet assurance of quality and class. It was everything I needed—a popular, respected model with stellar reviews.
My main priorities were durability, reliability, advanced technology, and comfort—a car that could carry my wife, my kids, and me through whatever lay ahead. The Avalon didn’t just meet those expectations; it exceeded them. It became my steadfast companion through the many stages of my life.
This car was there for everything: my long commutes to an out-of- state job, family vacations, weekend road trips, and countless errands. We even moved across the country together, with the Avalon packed full of our belongings, carrying all my hopes and anxieties as I started a new chapter in my life. It was more than just a car; it was a part of my journey.
But the Avalon’s most important journey was the one it took with my daughter. I remember the quiet, early morning drives to the hospital, the weight of uncertainty filling the car like a second presence. My daughter was just a newborn when she was diagnosed with cancer, and during those long months of anxiety and prayers, the Avalon became a sanctuary. It carried us to appointments, treatments, and, when we needed a moment’s peace, out on drives to clear our heads. In that car, I could find a sense of calm, a steady presence amid the chaos of fear and uncertainty.
Supporting the American Cancer Society became deeply personal to me. The work they do to support cancer patients, and their families was something I witnessed up close. Though my daughter was too young to understand, their presence and support meant the world to us. Knowing we weren’t alone in those dark times—that was a lifeline.
When it finally came time to let go of the Avalon, I knew I wanted it to continue helping others. Donating it to the American Cancer Society felt like the perfect way to honor that chapter of my life. Parting with it wasn’t just about saying goodbye to a vehicle; it was about passing along the comfort it had given us and offering someone else the hope that we found with the help of this organization.
I hope that the Avalon’s next journey brings someone else the same strength and peace it brought to us.
