This week’s car donation features a 1997 Volvo 850 GLT that was donated to WBUR through the Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program. Car Talk works with local public radio stations across the nation. They ensure that each station gets the most from the proceeds of your donation. This enables your favorite programs to continue fostering thoughtful discussion, trustworthy information, and engaging entertainment. Your car donation helps keep your favorite public radio programming on air.
This donor shares their experience with their beloved vehicle and why they chose to donate to WBUR:
This Volvo was my dream car! I will never forget the day we got it. The dealer was showing us lots of other cars with way more mileage. I noticed the beautiful black wagon with the dealer plates in the lot. I asked The dealer is that car for sale? He sheepishly said yes. We took it for a test drive and we were sold! The car was made the last year before Volvo was sold. It had a strong exterior in the engine of a race car! When my triplets were born in 2002 two years after I bought the car, I refused to give it up. We squeezed them in the backseat until they burst it out of the back of the car! The car, of course took a little beating, especially, the interior but it kept right on going!
Even after we got a van, I continued to drive my Volvo! The paint faded and they were repairs needed, but my mechanic continued to tell me it drove like a race car and it did! My daughter used the car to drive back-and-forth for a couple of summers to her camp job. Her friends jokingly called it the Hertz. They all loved that old car! Eventually, there were some pesky issues that were not repaired easily. Slow drain on the Battery whose origin we couldn’t identify. Then there was a suspected problem with the alternator. I brought it to my trusted mechanic, and he assured me, he would get to the bottom of it. He told me not to give up on the car that it still ran like a racehorse!
Sadly, he passed away while the car was at his shop very unexpectedly. The problem was never solved, and the car sat in the driveway. Over a year has gone by and I’ve finally admitted I need to let it go. But I can?t think of a better place to donated it. The need for Responsible and trustworthy news and information is imperative at this point! I’m happy to do what I can to contribute to To an invaluable resource, that is WBUR!
The proceeds from this vehicle donation will allow WBUR to continue creating content for its loyal listeners!
