This magnificently restored Ford Model T, that was generously donated, comes straight from the roaring ‘20s and lives as a remarkable testament to our world’s automotive history. The Model T is surrounded by a wealth of historic and industrial achievements, making it difficult to fully understand the importance of each one. At the end of its 19 year production span, over 15 million Model T units drove off of the assembly line, which is a record that remained unbroken for nearly 45 years! Volkswagen was the only automobile manufacturer who came close to rivaling the Model T in terms of worldwide recognition as well as its legacy, when they produced the Beetle.

The Model T also best embodies the ambitious vision of Ford’s Founder, Henry Ford himself. Ford aimed to create the highest quality product in the most efficient way, and at the same time, be able to offer it at the most competitive price as well as making sure his employees received top wages. Ford broke new ground in the production, as well as the marketing of the Model T which resulted in a win-win situation for everyone involved. This led his innovative methods to inspiring rivals, ensuing competition which would lower prices and increase wages for employees, and customers being able to count on a reliable product that comes at an affordable price. In addition, this win-win situation also stamped Ford’s legacy in the automobile industry for generations to come.

How Much Did the Model T Cost?

At the time of release, the Model T was remarkably affordable for the typical American, especially with its price actually decreasing each year as production furthered. This is relatively unheard of especially in today’s market where vehicle prices seem to increase even at the slightest market movements. In 1908, the Model T was priced originally at $850, which in today’s currency (after being adjusted for inflation) is nearly $25,000. In 1908, just 8 years following, the Model T cost had plummeted to about $360, or just above $9,000 in today’s currency. To put this in perspective, in 2012, the cheapest new vehicle sold for $10,990, which is a testament to the high standard that Henry Ford had set.

In the early days of its release, the Model T cars came in a range of colors, but by 1914, Henry Ford mandated that they all be painted black. By 1918, the Model T’s made up half of the vehicles on the American roads! The Model T acts as a symbol of the pinnacle of American manufacturing, a time when products were made domestically and everyone involved was impacted by the rewards in some capacity. The automobile market was thriving on its own, and is a time that will forever remind us of the remarkable ideas and innovations of the past that shaped the times we are in now. The real brilliance can be appreciated within the production and marketing strategies. With this Model T’s donation, we are also reminded of the values of generosity working together with charity!
