Human Rights Day is annually observed on December 10, the anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
The Declaration is a document that states the rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being – regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. It holds the Guinness World Record as the most translated document in the world, being translated in 500 languages.
The theme for Human Rights Day 2020 is “Recover Better- Stand Up for Human Rights”. Human rights goals can be achieved if we are able to create equal opportunities for all, address the failures exposed and exploited by the COVID-19 pandemic, and apply human rights standards to take on systematic inequalities.
