About the San Francisco SPCA
The San Francisco SPCA was founded in 1868 after James Sloan Hutchinson saw two men dragging a hog along a cobblestone street in San Francisco. Hutchinson stepped in to stop the cruelty and save the hog. The incident sparked Hutchinson’s concern for animal abuse which led to the establishment of the the San Francisco SPCA. The SF SPCA is the fourth oldest humane society in the U.S. and is a national leader in saving homeless cats and dogs and working to end animal abandonment. Your donation to the SF SPCA will save and protect animals who need medical care and a place to call home.
