On Sunday November 2, more than 50,000 runners hit the streets of New York City and competed in the TCS NYC Marathon. The only thing more remarkable than the turnout was how much money was raised; $16,653,329!

In this photo, runners cross the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge at at the beginning of the race. Despite the cold and rainy weather on Sunday, there was a remarkable turnout. I wonder how many people can fit on that bridge? It looks like an awful lot!

Hundreds of charities get involved in the NYC marathon every year  to raise money for non-profits across the country.

Some of our charity partners get involved too! Team Animal League (supporting North Shore Animal League America) participates every year. Their team captain, Scott Guber, has been on the team since 2008, and has participated in 18 marathons to date! That’s 471.6 miles!

Team Animal League runs to support the organizations’ mission to “rescue, rehabilitate, and adopt nearly 20,000 animals each year.” North Shore Animal League America is the largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization in the world.

You don’t have to run a marathon to participate! Every runner is encouraged to fund raise, and supporting a runner is an easy way to get involved without running 26.2 miles. There are so many charities to support like teams Unicef, The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and The American Lung Association.
