Since 1992, The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) has organized the annual World Breastfeeding Week between August 1-7. World Breastfeeding Week was coordinated in order to promote public awareness and support for breastfeeding.
This year, the 2020 campaign is focusing on the impact of breastfeeding on the environment and climate change.
What are the benefits of breastfeeding?
- Breast milk has antibodies that help protect your baby from illnesses.
- Breast milk is easy to digest, which may result in less gas and belly pain than a baby who is formula fed.
- Breast milk is available whenever your baby wants to eat.
- Breastfeeding burns extra calories and can help mom get back to her pre-pregnancy weight.
