How to Donate a Car to Your
Public Radio Station

Step 1: Pick Your Station and Provide Information

Choose the public radio station you’d like to support and complete the donation form online or by calling us at (877) 215-0227. We will ask you a few questions about your vehicle, including the VIN, year, make, model, mileage, and condition.

Step 2: Schedule Free Car Pick Up

Tell us a bit about yourself and where your car will be picked up. You’ll be contacted by a local towing agent within 2-3 business days to schedule a pick up time that works best for you.

Step 3: Get Tax Receipt

Once you submit your car donation through the Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program, you’ll receive a confirmation email with access to your Donor Console. Within the Donor Console, you’ll be able to track the progress of your car donation, upload documents, and get tax and title information. After your car is sold, you’ll be emailed a tax receipt.

What types of vehicles can I donate?

All types of vehicles can be donated to your favorite NPR station! We accept cars, trucks, and vans. If you wish to donate a motorcycle, trailer, RV, heavy machinery, boat, or plane, call us at (877) 215-0227 to ensure your vehicle meets the minimum donation criteria.

Can I donate a car that doesn't run?

Yes, you can still donate it to your favorite public radio station! Simply let us know when you are filling out the donation form. We do ask that your car have at least two inflated tires and be in a tow-accessible location, such as a driveway or on the street.

What if I can't find my title?

Don’t worry! You can apply for a duplicate title through your state’s DMV. Click here to find your state’s duplicate title application or call us at (877) 215-0227 and a customer service representative can help you.

How much money will my public radio station receive from my car donation?

Our agent, Advanced Remarketing Services, returns at least 70% of the gross proceeds from the sale of your vehicle to the public radio station of your choice.

Will I receive a tax receipt?

Yes! Within 30 days of the sale of your car, you’ll be emailed a tax receipt. If your car sells for over $500, you may deduct the full selling price of the car when itemizing taxes. If your car sells for less than $500, you can deduct $499 or your car’s fair market value, whichever is less. Please consult with your tax advisor on the best way to claim your Car Talk VDP car donation tax deduction.
